Description
The Wordsworth Way is a brand new Ullswater walking route from Glenridding to Ambleside following the path much walked by the great poet William Wordsworth. This guide book will help you navigate and enjoy the walk, with illustrations by Mark Richards.
Starting at the shore of Lake Ullswater at Glenridding it climbs the peaceful Grisedale Valley to reach the Parting Stone at the outflow of Grisedale Tarn. Then descending towards Grasmere and the famous Dove Cottage, from where some of his finest poetry was crafted. From Dove Cottage the Wordsworth Way follows the Coffin Route to Rydal Mount, residence of his later years. Then over the Pelter Bridge and ending at the University of Cumbria campus. Or starting there as the walk may be undertaken in either direction.
This guide book composed by Jade Louise Cookson and Mark Richards, highlights many of the locations that were important to the Wordsworth circle with extracts from many of his well known poems. This guide is illustrated throughout with carefully chosen period paintings to view each panorama as the Wordsworth beheld them.
